Blueberry Grunt (Nova Scotian)

1 quart blueberries
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon butter
2/3 cup milk
1&1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white sugar

Heat blueberries, water and first portion of sugar until berries begin to soften. Then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and remaining sugar. Cut in butter and add enough milk to make a soft dough. Drop dumpling dough by the teaspoon onto hot berries. Cover tightly and cook for 15 minutes. Serve hot and enjoy!
